It's like a bird house perched near her letterbox, but instead of birds coming and going from the roost, it's books which take flight and make their way across Orange.
In action for a week, the street library is chock-full of books waiting for someone to come along and take them, placing another book in its place.
The concept has surged into popularity across the past few years, with the idea taking off in North America especially.
Mrs Russell has been wanting to do it for several years, but after spending two decades on a farm at Browns Creek with her husband it was only once they moved into Orange it became possible.
"I love the whole concept of it. Because we're living in a digital age, books are so precious and need to be shared and it's such a wonderful thing for the community to have locally for all ages," she said.
"I've had the idea for a few years. It's been popular in America as little libraries and then I saw it again on Gardening Australia building a street library there and I said that's it, the time is now."
"Please, everyone out there come and have a look and if you like the idea, build one."

So, she got together with her daughter Mel, with the latter putting most of the work into the book house after getting a kit from streetlibrary.org.au, which bills itself as the official street library hub for Australia.
It took a few weeks to put together on and off, but was officially plonked on the front lawn a week ago and has been welcomed by not just the community on Green Lane but across Orange.
"Because I'm always out here gardening I always have the opportunity to talk to people as the go past to share the story and the idea with them," Mrs Russell said.
"Everybody just thinks it's a great idea and they have embraced it, so I'm really happy with it and it looks fantastic."
The street is a hub for people walking their dogs and running, and nearly a dozen people have spoken to Mrs Russell in the past week about the library and, slowly but surely, the books are starting to swap over.
It's giving the Russells a thrill whenever they open the library, with a new book or two normally finding its way in each day.
While the Green Lane street library is the only one registered in Orange online, a longer-term library has been running near Bletchington Public School, while Mrs Russell knows of one or two others around the city, but says the more the merrier.
"I know there's been one outside Bletchington for some time, a church in Matthews Avenue which has one and I thought I saw one in Samson or Clinton Street too," she said.
"Please, everyone out there come and have a look and if you like the idea, build one."
