Back in 2010 he was a headliner for the Garden Party music festival that attracted 3200 people to the Botanic Gardens.
A Central Western Daily report of the show said Orange motels were booked our four weeks in advance as people came from around the region.
Less than two years ago he had crowds lined up on Summer Street and down the Centrepoint Arcade for a book signing of his latest memoir Working Class Man.

Helen Cobden was at the front of the 200-strong queue who waited two hours before Barnes arrived for the book signing.
"It's an honour to meet an Australian legend," she said.
One fan asked Barnes to sign her book to the Working Class Woman.
"Working Class Woman, we love that, we'll have to rewrite that," Barnes said.
Collins Book Store owner Phillip Schwebel said they sold about 300 books at the signing. And now Barnes will be back in February to perform again in Orange.
