The Ginger Pride Festival will return to Wade Park to celebrate red heads, while raising awareness for Huntington Disease.
The celebration will include a children's play area with five jumping castles, a tug-o-war competition, a dance arena with workshops, ginger-bread decorating and live music.
Organiser Rachael Brooking painted the party red in memory of her ginger mum Frances Kelly and her auntie, both sufferers of HD.
"Huntington Disease has been likened to having Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's, psychosis and a Cognitive Mental Health Disorder all at the same time," she said.
Mrs Brooking said there are around 30 families in the Central West experiencing life with HD.
"Each child with a parent with HD has a 50 per cent chance of inheriting the gene. I'm trying to get across the effect it has on families."
Mrs Brooking said her mum was in her forties when she received a diagnosis, despite experiencing symptoms long before that.
"It took us many years and a lot of family break down to try to figure out what she had," she said.
Mrs Brooking said she hoped to bring the disease out of the shadows and create awareness for its sufferers.
Ginger Pride Festival is on 10am-4pm. Entry is a gold coin. An all day ride pass for children is $10.
