The lecture will explore why many rural and regional Australians are deserting major political parties.
Political journalist from The Guardian, Gabrielle Chan, will lead the discussion, as a guest of Charles Sturt University.
Ms Chan has been a journalist for more than 30 years, working as a political correspondent, blogger and senior writer for Australian newspapers.
Her latest book, Rusted Off: Why country Australia is fed up, was short-listed for the 2019 Prime Minister's Literary Awards in the non-fiction category.
The talk is part of CSU's Exploration Series, which aims to engage rural and regional audiences in matters of significance.
CSU engagement officer Julia Andrews said Ms Chan was a great fit for the series.
"Conversation around politics is important for people in our regions and we are happy to provide a platform for people to learn about and discuss different points of view," she said.
The lecture in Orange starts at 6pm on October 10 at Groundstone Café, 151 Byng Street.
Registration is through the CSU website's events page.
