The event was based on a model established by not-for-profit group Dogs in the Park NSW in Sydney and was run by the group in conjunction with Central West Animal Rescue.
CWAR founder Jasmine Smart estimated that between 400 and 500 people brought their dogs from as far as Dubbo for the popular social day out.
"At one point for about three to four hours there we couldn't move," Miss Smart said.
"It was marvelous, we had people come from Dubbo for the day for the first year.
"It was pretty cool, we were pretty stoked."
Miss Smart said some people also came without dogs just to have a fun day out and to mix and mingle with pet owners.
"We had a couple of issues, we had some owners who had their rose-coloured glasses on but all in all they were well behaved," she said.
Miss Smart said there were 26 stalls selling items from food for dog owners for dog merchandise such as collars, leashes, kennels, and hand made items as well as a CWAR stall and a puppy kissing booth.
"We did really well, we raised I think $1400 [for the CWAR]," she said.
Miss Smart said another event is planned to be held in Orange on the third week of September next year.
