The four-year-old gelding more than justified its $2.40 start price as favourite, with the Garry White-trained Cool One at $4 mounting the only serious challenge.
Lining up in the final fixture of Monday's season opener in Orange, Star Of O'Reilly took the Central West Trailers Class 2 Handicap by storm, leaping out of the gates at the start of the 1400m fixture.
Baker's gelding snatched a two-length lead straight out of the gates and held it virtually the whole 1400m to claim his third career win from nine starts.
Cool One mounted a big challenge in the final 100m, but Brandon Lerena sparked Star Of O'Reilly into another burst of speed and easily galloped away from the rest of the pack.
The final margin for Star Of O'Reilly would be two lengths, with Brooke Somers' Grosvenor Bridge sneaking ahead of Cool One just before the line to finish second by a length.
