The geology team decided to organise a fundraiser to support and encourage a colleague who is currently battling breast cancer.

A series of fundraising barbecues were held at Cadia and just over $3,000 was raised from Cadia workforce donations.

Cadia general manager Peter Sharpe said Newcrest Mining provided an additional $1,000 through its $4$ program, which matches donations raised by the Cadia workforce up to a maximum of $1,000 for national charities and $5,000 for local causes.

"I would like to congratulate the geology team for this excellent fundraising outcome and thank the Cadia workforce for their generous donations towards the very important work of the McGrath Foundation," Peter said.

Principal - geology Luke Barbetti and project geologist, Evan Ross recently met with local McGrath Foundation breast cancer nurse Sue Kuter, whose role is completely funded by donations.

In her capacity as a McGrath Foundation breast cancer nurse, Mrs Kuter sees more than 700 women across the Central West a year.

"It's very generous of Cadia to find the time and money to support my role," Sue said.

The McGrath Foundation has also launched a campaign in Peak Hill with the town becoming 'Pink Hill' for the month of October.
