Olivia Susan Mitchell, 33, of Franklin Road, did not appear in court for sentencing.
Magistrate David Day convicted and fined Mitchell $330 and said she had no prior convictions and the offence was opportunistic.
"She made no admissions to police even though she was caught on CCTV and the phone had been used," Mr Day said.
According to police, a previous customer left the phone on the counter when they were ordering food and left without it on October 3.
The phone's owner returned a short time later but when the phone could not be located a manager reviewed the CCTV footage which showed a man drawing Mitchell's attention to the phone when she approached the counter. It also showed Mitchell putting the phone in her handbag.
Mitchell denied taking the phone and denied it was her in the footage when police went to her home on December 12 but an investigation showed her father's phone number had been used in the phone.
