The first Dogs in the Park will be held as a chance for dog lovers and their pups to come together and celebrate everything great about dogs, while also raising money for a good cause.
The event is being run by Central West Animal Rescue in conjunction with Dogs in the Park NSW, a not-for-profit which runs events across Sydney and coastal centres, but the Orange sojourn marks the first time it has travelled inland.
CWAR's Jasmine Smart said there would be stalls with vets, pet nutritionists and more, as well as a jumping castle and face-painting for children.
Miss Smart said competitions would include cutest puppy, fancy dress, happiest dog and dog owner and lookalike, while there would also be races for small, medium and large dogs - with every pooch in line for a ribbon as a prize.
"We're so excited, there are so many animal lovers in town and it'll be good to have a chance for people and dogs to socialise, which is really important for both," she said.
The event will be held on September 29 from 10am to 3pm at the Orange Showground, with the event free for all comers.
Miss Smart said organisers were still looking for more stallholders and a band to play on the day, with anyone interested encouraged to get in contact via the CWAR Facebook page.
