Author Sophie Hansen, doctor Skye Boughen, editor Tracey Prisk and firefighter Matt Jeffery will panel a discussion during the next Up Late at the Orange Regional Museum evening this week.

Mr Jeffery has been in the fire service for 23 years and the Orange Station Officer for Fire and Rescue NSW for several years.

He said the biggest change is with the equipment now used to protect both themselves as well as the people and property they rescue.

"In some ways you have an advantage due to technology but there are certain parts which bring up new complication," he said.

Mr Jeffery pointed to the popularisation of electric vehicles as presenting a future challenge for firefighters.

"Even though they're making no noise they're is the potential they're still running and their batteries burn with a fair bit of intensity," he said.

Museum visitors will be given the change to check out the All in a Day's Work exhibition, a collection of photos of men and women working in Orange from the Central Western Daily's archives during the Up Late event.

Children will be kept busy with arts and crafts activities inspired by the exhibition. Adults can make their own newspaper front page.

The free event will kick off at 6pm, with complimentary snacks and drinks provided.
