Cr Romano was re-elected as deputy mayor of Orange City Council at council's meeting on Tuesday night.
He defeated Cr Tony Mileto in the final of three ballots of the 11 councillors present on the night.
Cr Jason Hamling was absent from the meeting.
Two other nominees, councillors Jeff Whitton and Scott Munro were knocked out of the running in the first two rounds of voting.

Earlier this year Cr Romano stood for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers party in the federal election.
However, he was defeated by the sitting member, the Nationals' Andrew Gee.
