Is this the last bastion of socially acceptable bigotry?
The 2016 census figures show the median gross income for a 2.5 person household in Orange was $1295, making the average significantly lower.
Twenty-three per cent of Orange households had a gross weekly income of $650 or less.
Thirty-three per cent of households rent.
Only six per cent of people were unemployed.
People need affordable housing because they are on low incomes.
A lot of the jobs that keep our city running are very poorly paid.
People on low incomes make an important contribution to Orange and should not to be typecast as antisocial criminals by councillors confecting outrage to win votes.
They deserve somewhere affordable and decent to live, and a hell of a lot more respect from some councillors.
