A cracked pipe began spilling water between 6.30-7am between Clinton Street and Hill Street.
Orange City Council workers began repairs not long after and residents on Byng Street were alerted to the disruption.
Council spokesperson Allan Reeder said it often this time of year when the seasons change that pipes crack.
Mr Reeder said it was thought water would be restored to the houses within four hours from when repairs began at around 7am.
Traffic had not been disrupted in the area.
