'Up Late: A Hard Day's Night' will be a perfect opportunity to explore our current exhibition in a lively atmosphere before it closes for good on Monday, October 14.

This Up Late event will focus on some of the big changes the world has seen in the last 50 years that have revolutionised the way we work.

'Up Late: A Hard Day's Night' will feature a panel discussion with local identities Sophie Hansen, Matt Jeffery (NSW Fire and Rescue), Tracey Prisk (Central Western Daily) and Dr Skye Boughen (Orange Aboriginal Medical Service).

The panel will explore how our working lives in Orange have changed across sectors such as health care, emergency services, media and agriculture, and how they are likely to continue changing in the future.

There will also be the chance to learn about the fascinating and complex hot-metal typesetting process that was used to print newspapers such as the Central Western Daily in the mid-20^th century.

Using a 90 character keyboard, typesetters cast each line of the newspaper as a single piece of hot metal.

This metal line, known as a slug, was then used to print that line of the newspaper on each copy for the day.

While we won't be casting newspaper headlines in molten lead any time soon, there will be the chance to get crafty and make your own newspaper front page using a variety of stamping, stenciling and dry transfer lettering techniques.

Kids will also be catered to, with a selection of kids' craft activities running throughout the evening.

These fun activities will be drawn from some of the Museum's favourite Mondays at the Museum sessions held in the past months.
