No one expected Luke Nixon's comeback season would be so successful, least of all the man himself.

With Canobolas Motorcycle Club's Motocross and Enduro season coming to a close, Nixon is set to achieve podium finishes for the season in all three classes he has competed in - a win in the Senior Lite A Motocross, second in the Open All Powers Motocross and a top three spot in the Expert Enduro Class too.
"[It was] my first season back racing after a five-year break. I didn't have any expectations of how I would go with my main goal being to stay injury free," Nixon, as humble a rider as you'll find, said.
It's actually already been his most successful season too, which will come to an end on Sunday, September 22, although it certainly didn't happen overnight.
"I have been riding for as long as I can remember and started out racing my brother and sister on the farm. I have always been a competitive person and my main motivation was to beat my older brother," he explained.
"This happened when I was about five years old and he has never been able to catch me since."
The five-year break from the bike gave Nixon a chance to focus on saving to buy his own property where he has built a track to practice on.
Not being able to stay away for any longer, he equipped himself with a new YZ250 2 stroke bike which suits his aggressive riding style.
"Fitness has been my biggest challenge this season as it is such a demanding sport physically. I managed to make it through this year, but I am determined to be stronger and fitter next season and am already following a cycling and running program to make this happen," the 32-year-old explained.
"At the moment I have to talk myself down in the races because I am wanting to battle the whole time, but I just haven't got the fitness."
Clearly his modesty is coming to the fore with the latter comment, considering he completed the three-hour Enduro Ironman on the weekend in second, a category reserved for only the fittest of riders and one he's never attempted before.
"Motocross is my favourite type of racing. I mainly do Enduro because I am there with my son Lachie anyway and figure I might as well have a go as stand around. I hadn't done an Enduro race for 18 years before this season but I have enjoyed the challenge," he said.
Young Lachie, who also hadn't raced in three or four seasons, made a comeback alongside his father this season too.
Although the final round of the motocross season isn't until later this month Nixon can't drop out of first or second in this discipline, and with his speed off the line he'll be tough to beat.
"Dad and Lachie will probably be there to cheer me on. Bikes are a bit of a family affair and Dad has supported me my whole life - except for the bike maintenance, I had to learn to do that myself from when I was a kid," Nixon said.
"I am a better person when I am focused on bikes. I had to change my lifestyle to take care of myself by eating better and looking after my health. That doesn't mean I might not celebrate with a few quiet beers if all goes well on Sunday."
