Mr Goldney is a wildlife-landscape academic with a particular interest in the ecology and wildlife of the area.
Over the past 47 years, he has spoken to hundreds of farmers and community groups about conserving biodiversity in agricultural landscapes.
Titled 'Historical Changes in the Landscape of the Central West', Mr Goldney will speak on the history of land use in the Central West Region, from pre-European times to now.
The society get together will take place from 7.30pm on Kite Street.
In addition to Thursday's meeting the public is also invited to join the society on a field trip to the places mentioned in Mr Goldney's talk on Sunday.
The group will meet at the Orange High School bus bay at 9am to travel from the edge of the basalt country near Orange through the granite landscape to Bathurst.
