There are farmers without enough food to feed their animals, there are land owners being forced to sell off their properties and there are families being made to tighten their belts.

Those who perhaps haven't had much of a light shone on them are the members of our business community who are also suffering as a result of the drought.

These are the hard-working store owners, business managers and entrepreneurs who are trying to make a living at a time when people are being forced to cut back on essential items and discretionary spending is way down.

It's no wonder Tactical Electrical owner Andrew Bailey [left] feels so disheartened after his store was targeted at around 4.30am on Monday morning.

Thieves stole about $2,000-worth of camera equipment from his CBD store, leaving Mr Bailey short on stock, facing a big clean up and having to chase up insurance claims.

Sadly this could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

After already having to deal with a 50 percent drop in business over the past 12 months, Mr Bailey can't be blamed for wondering if it's all too much to deal with.

Police are of course looking for the two men who they believe are responsible for the theft after they were seen exiting the nearby car park via the Sale Street exit.

Despite the best efforts by police, there's little hope the items will be returned to Mr Bailey.

This story comes after we learnt last week of the antics of a man dressed in a batman mask and cape who targeted IGA, the Orange Ex-services' Country Club and The Victoria Hotel.

Not only has this man scared an innocent cleaner of The Victoria Hotel, he's actually cost all of those business owners time and money.

Owing a business if not easy, particularly in these challenging times when there's strong competition for customers' dollars.

You can't help but feel sorry for retailers and hospitality owners who have to be concerned about their businesses being vandalised, broken into and their hard-earned money stolen.

Let's hope that those people in the community who have information about these incidents do the right thing and contact police.
