The father of three and former Waratahs cricket all-rounder is a self-confessed history buff and said he loved interacting with older residents.

He said it was essential for families to do a safety audit of their loved ones' homes in the interests of prevention and even a handrail could make a huge difference.

"The silly thing is it is really easy to change little things in the home to just make life that little bit easier, yet no one thinks about this until it is too late," he said.

IF you have glasses you no longer use, one of Orange's dispensers has a use for them.

Specsavers, which recently moved to different premises inside Orange Central Square shopping centre, has partnered with Lions Recycle for Sight to collect old glasses and refurbish them for people in need.

Co-owner Conrad Porter said many people in developing countries lived with vision impairment.

"We're asking the community to clear our their drawers of old glasses as part of their spring cleaning and putting them to good use," he said.

He hoped to collect 100 pairs and donors can drop their glasses into the store.

AFTER months of preparations, Spilt Milk Bar will open to the public on Wednesday from 12pm.

Co-owner Andrew Hamilton said the business would employ up to 12 staff, which had been undergoing training for the past couple of weeks.

"Everyone will also be able to download the app and know the latest flavours," he said.

CHARLES Sturt University will run a free presentation on Monday on the way technology has changed the relationship between customers and businesses.

It will be held at the Bathurst campus at 5.30pm.
