That's all it took for Bathurst St Pat's gun fullback Erin Naden to cut through Orange Hawks' line and run 50 metres in the blink of an eye to set the minor premiers on their path to a grand final appearance.

They led from start to finish of the Group 10 League Tag major semi-final, with the final 30-10 result locking them into what will be a Bathurst-based decider in a fortnight's time.

Hawks responded to Naden's try less than five minutes into the clash through Millie Lenehan and for a moment it looked like the Group 10 League Tag semi final would be a close one, but after Bec Ford's tricky conversion slid wide, the momentum swung straight to St Pat's and never really left them.

They threw the pressure right onto Hawks, forcing penalties and keeping it within 30 metres of their line for several sets before Emily Rhynehartr snuck through, and skipper Mish Somers and Naden - again - kept finding holes in the Hawks line to push forward.

Hawks repelled, but with only a few minutes in the first half Sarah Watterson leapt on a turnover and ran 60 metres to the line and Somers converted to see off the first half 18-4 St Pat's way.

Hawks needed to strike early, and despite spending five minutes prying and poking for holes in St Pat's defence they couldn't, and Candice Boggs scored one against the current and from there the momentum never swung back the sky blues' way.

While the hosts did score again, so did St Pat's - twice - for a victory which thrilled Saints captain Somers.

"Really nice to get to that grand final, we've got a big couple of weeks ahead of us and we'll focus on that now but we'll enjoy tonight," she said after the win.

"We trained pretty well having the week off and knew we had to start strong."

Somers was full of praise for not just Naden, but the whole side.

"She's got some talent that girl, in attack and defence you can rely on her and it's nice to be able to throw her a short ball and she's away," Somers said of the Orange-based Naden, who also stopped some of Hawks' runs in their tracks.

"I think our defence was good, we chatted heaps and shut them down early which was nice, and our attack is something we've been working in the line."

The second-half attack was something Somers was happy to see off.

"We knew they'd come out, they're a team that never dies and we stood up, held the ball and kept them out for 15 minutes," she said.

"They're a great side, you give them an inch and they run with it and we had to be on and to their credit, the girls were."

Hawks coach Marty Lyden said her side "turned over too much ball".

"We've got a lot of our girls who played a full game of under-18s and that makes it a bit tough, and a few injuries in the 18s made it tough as well," he said.

"That said we didn't use the ball and play our sets out like we should have."

He said his side's defence was a positive to take out of the clash into next week's decider, but wasn't fussed by taking the long road to the grand final.

"We've done it the last couple of years so I'm sure we can do it again."
