Looking back over more than 60 years of driving, it's very obvious that cars have improved out of sight in so many ways.
However, I'm not sure that drivers and their driving have.
... I usually wonder if they've been like that since they obtained their licence.

In my opinion, some aspects of driving have changed for the worse include: more tailgating; more aggressive and speeding drivers; speeding through roundabouts and a lack of common courtesies.
When I hear reports of some older people being unsafe drivers, I usually wonder if they've been like that since they obtained their licence.
As far as drink-driving goes, there has been a significant change for the better across society.
As Dr. John Birrell wrote in the Sydney Morning Herald in 1962: "Victoria, in particular, has an incredible number of cars whose drivers, having had only 'a couple of beers' are being hit by wandering trees, telegraph poles, safety zones and parked cars."
