Orange City Council has announced the work will start on Monday to upgrade a 500-metre section of Shiralee Road, south of Rifle Range Road alongside a new housing estate.
It includes the installation of underground stormwater pipes, kerb and gutters and a wider road surface.
The road will be closed from 7am to 4pm Monday to Friday but will re-open to traffic on weekends.
Residents will be able to access their properties during the project.
A council spokesman said when the road is closed access to the Phillip Shaw winery will be via Pinnacle Road.
Access to the bicycle-walking path that runs from Shiralee Road south to Hawkes Lane will also be closed at Shiralee Road end.
