This week they want to make it an even better time to win their second, and while they know fairy-tales don't just happen, but they have the chance to spark the prospect of a men's Premier League Hockey fairy-tale this weekend in the preliminary final.

However, Wanderers have a big barrier in their way to a dream grand final appearance: Lithgow Panthers on their home deck.

"We know it'll be really tough," Pengilly admitted straight off the bat.

"They're such an experienced side, and there's a reason they've made as many finals as they have over the past few years."

He said the leadership of Adam Skelton and Michael Pengilly will be crucial to the side's chances of success, but all across the field - from Bailey Ferguson and Connor Morris up front to Logan Dolbel down back - the side has to step up.

"We just need to play out game and we've had a few good results the last few times we've been down there," Pengilly said.

Pengilly said the side had "peaked at the right time" bringing about a month of solid hockey to the fore after a long, win-less season.

"We've been getting the majority of our list on the park, we've had injuries and people coming in and out of the side and it's only come together in the past four weeks," he said.

"The guys have been mentally better and haven't been pushed off the ball as easily which is crucial."

But the big question - can they do it? Is there belief?

"We said a few weeks ago we only need to win three games for the year," Pengilly said chuckling.

"I'm hoping with the home final that will help spur them on a bit, but it'll be tough."
