Dean Sewell and Matthew Abbott will give a public lecture on Contemporary Photojournalism on Friday from 6pm and lead a full day workshop on Visual Storytelling and Photography on Saturday.

Mr Sewell has worked extensively on environmental and social photography, charting the impacts of climate change and globalisation.

He is also a recipient of multiple World Press Photo Awards and Australian Press Photographer of the Year awards.

Mr Abbott works internationally and across Australia for clients including The Washington Post, The Guardian, Vice, Al Jazeera and The Saturday Paper.

He was also the recipient of the Sydney Morning Herald Documentary Photographer Award in 2013 for his project 'On country in Arnhem Land'.

On Friday, they will speak about their experiences in the industry, reflect on contemporary photojournalistic practices and show examples of their work.

On Saturday, participants will learn about developing narrative story ideas to be told through documentary photography and receive a portfolio review as well as guidance on current projects.

Matthew Abbott said Western NSW has been an area of interest for his work for several years now.

"So I'm looking forward to the opportunity to connect with other photographers from the region and have the chance to hear what stories are important to them," he said.

"In an age of iPhones and social media platforms, I believe long form documentary photography is as important as ever.

"When we work long on term projects, we are making carefully constructed narratives of a particular place and time that go beyond social photos.

"I think this approach is an effective way of bringing issues to light, chronicling our history and giving insight to others while at the same time holding a mirror to our own society. "
