Baymus Fernando, 33, of Nelson Place, was given a total three-year jail sentence with a 12-month non-parole period dating from February 19, when he was sentenced in Orange Local Court in May.
The jail sentence was for aggravated break and enter in company and stealing, resisting police and possessing housebreaking implements.
The charges were laid after Fernando and another man broke into a service station at Lucknow about 10.15pm on February 18, 2019. A community member saw them trying to break in through a window and phoned police.
When police arrived they arrested the co-offender outside the building and found Fernando inside hiding behind a cupboard and he refused to come out.
He was in possession of five lighters, that were stolen from the business, a torch and a tyre iron.
However, on Monday Fernando appealed the total jail sentence, which was reduced to a total jail sentence of 18 months with a seven month non-parole period meaning he will be eligible for parole on September 18.
The court heard that Fernando was affected by drugs and alcohol at the time of offending, came from a background of significant disadvantage but he also had 12 larceny-type offences out of 34 on his criminal record.
Acting Judge Geoffrey Graham said the individual jail sentences needed to be reduced because they went beyond what was required and he also reduced the total sentence.
