NSW Police officers were patrolling streets in Orange this week when the incident occurred.
"About 12.30pm on Monday, August 12, 2019 police attached to the Traffic Task Force were patrolling through the township of Orange when they stopped a white Suzuki Swift for random testing," officers said in a statement.
"Police conducted a random drug test on a 20-year-old male from Orange.
"The driver returned a positive roadside reading showing cannabis as a result of roadside testing."
The driver was the holder of a class C P1 licence and officers will allege there was a child in the vehicle at the time the motorist was pulled over by police.
"The driver was arrested and taken to Orange police station where a secondary test was conducted," officers said.
"Police are awaiting for the secondary test to be forensically analysed where further action will be taken against the driver."
