The forecast falls of as low as 600 metres arrived with the city littered with patches of white.
The weekend weather will continue to resemble alpine conditions, with a top temperature of just 3 degrees.
The feels like temperature at 6.30am on Saturday morning was minus 6.4 degrees.
Live Traffic NSW is reporting the Mitchell Highway is open, but motorists are urged to exercise caution.
All roads in the Oberon area - including the O'Connell Road - have been closed. Oberon's elevation is above 1100 metres and the area would have been one of the hardest hit by the predicted snowfall.

The next 12 hours in Orange should bring snow.
That's the warning from weatherzone.com and the Bureau of Meteorology with the forecast for snow in the region upgraded.
It's predicted snow will fall as low as 600 metres. Orange's elevation is 863 metres while Mount Canobolas, sitting at 1395m, should be blanketed in snow on Friday night.
Previous forecasts for snow were for around 700m on Saturday.
Parts of New South Wales are currently experiencing the dangerous winds generated by a deep polar low moving across the region which is expected to bring blizzard-like conditions.
It's predicted to start snowing at around 3am, with a full covering of snow in Orange by the time most people wake up on Saturday morning.

"This is the coldest outbreak the south-east has seen this year," Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) duty forecaster Rohan Smyth said.
Motorists are being urged to take extra caution during these conditions as the region battles "dangerous" driving conditions.
Orange is expected to reach a top of just 3 degrees on Saturday.
