NSW parliamentary secretary for health Natasha Maclaren-Jones MLC said the program is a fantastic opportunity for junior doctors to carve career paths as rural generalist practitioners with advanced skills, while having the experience of a lifetime.
"Junior doctors undertaking this training pathway will benefit from a broad and challenging range of clinical practice, while enjoying the fresh, exhilarating experience of rural life and being part of a close-knit community," Ms Maclaren-Jones said.
"The program is a win-win for both aspiring doctors and rural communities as it plays a key role in developing a medical workforce with advanced skills to service the two million people who call rural and regional NSW home."
The program is offering pathways from February 2020 to January 2021, and has been run since 2013, including close to 200 participants across the state.
Training places will be offered in Tamworth, Maitland, Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Grafton, Griffith, Orange, Bega, Nowra and Broken Hill.
