The 40-year-old woman was no longer under police guard and her condition had improved since she was admitted to the hospital in a semi-conscious state on Thursday.
A spokesperson for the police said while officers were eager to speak to the woman, they would have to wait until the health service had completed its assessment.
The cause of the child's death could not be confirmed on Monday, as a post-mortem report was yet to be completed.
The police spokesperson said officers from the Central Western Police District were maintaining close contact with the hospital, while the woman was being assessed.
Police attended the house at around 7.30pm last Thursday following a report from a neighbour who was concerned for the mother and child's welfare.
Paramedics took the woman to Orange hospital but the girl was believed to have died on Thursday afternoon.
No charges had been laid on Monday and the investigation is ongoing.
