With a fortnight remaining in the regular season there's just one spot in top four available and while Confederates are in the box seat to claim that, the race for fourth remains a three-way battle.
The Orange side is ahead of Bathurst City on goal difference alone while Souths are four points further back.
Considering City have an uphill battle on their hands against Lithgow Panthers this weekend, if all goes to plan Confederates could move four points clear of their rivals heading into next weekend's final round.

On the flip side, if results fall in such a way the three sides could be on level-pegging come Saturday evening, which would set up a monstrous final-round clash between Confederates and City.
All three sides, this week at the very least, hold their destiny in their own hands, something not lost on Souths coach Chris Stafford as his side prepares to land at Orange Hockey Centre.
"Confederates have some very talented young players who have been in and out of the side with rep duty, which probably has a bit to do with them being up and down," Stafford said, Confederates will be missing Millah Allcorn to NSW Country duty this week too.
"They're a skilful side who love to punch it up the middle so we'll have to keep things tight up the guts. Last time we played them we had a lot of chances on the counter which we have to make the most of."
If the last match between the clubs is anything to go by then this Saturday's game could be a cracker. It took a late Ali Stanford goal for the two blues to salvage a 2-all draw in the meeting at Bathurst.
Souths scored first in the match before Confederates bounced back to score the next two goals. With little separating the clubs in terms of quality, a deciding factor could be who handles the pressure of a run towards the finals.
Souths are expected to field close to a full strength side for the Orange game.
Confederates host Souths from 12.30pm.
