Commander of the Central West Police District Superintendent Chris Taylor said the woman was in a stable condition and was being closely monitored.
Paramedics rushed the 40-year-old woman to Orange hospital at around 7.30pm on Thursday after a neighbour alerted police.
Officers from the Central West Police District found the woman lapsing in and out of consciousness and the woman's daughter was found dead in one of the bedrooms.
Initial investigations revealed the child may have died on Thursday afternoon.
Superintendent Taylor said as a result of what they found at the scene specialist forces had been called in on Thursday evening and detectives remained at the house on Friday.

He could not confirm the child's cause of death.
"The death of any child, in fact the death of any person in suspicious circumstances is tragic, particularly when it's a child because it has ramifications right through the family and also the people responding to the death, the police, the ambulance and the people at the hospital," Superintendent Taylor said.
Police were conducting a neighbourhood canvas around east Orange on Friday and speaking with people who may have known the pair.
The mother and daughter were the only two living at the property and were alone in the house at the time of the incidents.
The woman was believed to have lived and worked in Orange for about six months, where the girl attended child care.
Prior to moving to Orange the pair are believed to have lived in Blayney.
Superintendent Taylor said the woman had family in Queensland who had since been contacted.
He said police officers who made the discovery on Thursday evening were "completely taken aback" and their welfare was being taken care of.
Neighbours who were in close contact with the woman and child were being offered care on Friday.
Queensland police were assisting the Central West police with their enquiries and the homicide squad in Sydney had also been enlisted.
Superintendent Taylor said the investigation would be run from the Orange command.
No charges have been laid.
