The trains will leave Bathurst Railway Station and provide a nostalgic experience with open windowed carriages, as they take people for a quick train ride out of town and back again.

The trip will take people from Bathurst to Georges Plain and back again.

All funds raised on the day will go towards the restoration of CL17, the last of its kind built anywhere in the world.

The train will depart Bathurst at 1.05pm, and return at 1.45pm, giving a 40-minute taste of what it was like to ride these vintage trains in years gone by.

Tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for children.

The ride is organised by the Lachlan Valley Railway, a non-profit rail preservation society based in Cowra.

The society's present complex on Campbell Street houses more than 55 vintage carriages and locomotives under cover, and is open to visits daily - except for Christmas day - from 9am to 5pm.

The present day Lachlan Valley Railway Heritage Centre is not just a sterile, static museum, but rather a functioning rail facility where restoration and maintenance of locomotives and carriages is carried on in much the same and it has for over 90 years, albeit on a much smaller scale.

The current complex was originally the Cowra locomotive depot, but after its closure in the late 1970s, the responsibility for its preservation and maintenance was handed to the Lachlan Valley Railway Society.
