A mass auction of 29 house blocks, farms and parcels of land will be held by Cabonne Council to recoup about $380,000 in unpaid rates.

In what will be one of the largest sales of property seen in one day the council is taking action after many of the properties had rent arrears of five years with outstanding amounts of up to $28,873.
Council's director of finance and corporate services, Luke Taberner, said no one was currently living at any of the properties.

The properties to be auctioned include a house block in Charlotte Street and a former garage in Tilga Street Canowindra, several deceased estates, farmland and five pine plantation properties owned by Pine Forest of Aust Pty Ltd at Mullion Creek, Ophir and Lewis Ponds.
Mr Taberner said the auction would be a rare event.
"We are entitled to do it every five years," he said.
Mr Taberner said the property owners were entitled to pay their outstanding debt or make a financial arrangement to pay it until the auction date at which time the property would be removed from the auction list.
"We have 29 but we are expecting a few of those to drop off," he said.

He said council would keep the amount of rates it was owed plus costs and the rest of the sale price would be given to the property owner.
Mr Taberner said council was entitled to sell-off property to recoup the cost of rates if they had not been paid for five years.
Council can also sell vacant land after one year of unpaid rates if the debt was higher than the value of the land.
He said council expected much of the rural land would be bought by neighbouring farmers.
Mr Taberner said rates sell-offs were more common in rural areas than in regional towns and cities.
"In an area like Orange the land is worth a fair bit more money. The owners don't want council to sell it. In remote areas the land is not worth a lot of money," he said.
Orange City Council mayor Reg Kidd said such sell-offs were extremely rare in Orange.
The auction will be held at the Cabonne Council chambers in Bank Street, Molong from 11am on Friday, October 25.
Mr Taberner said the properties would be sold with a "clean unencumbered title" without a rates debt.
