I read with interest a story in the Central Western Daily about accessing the mountain for tourism during snow activity.

Where the idea would be great for tourism, the consequences of access during these events could be catastrophic.
My comments are based on the numerous times emergency services have been called (including RFS and SES volunteers) to rescue vehicles that have slid off the road to rescue people from those vehicles in sometimes freezing conditions.
And, by doing so, those services then risk their own lives for the community.
The vehicular access, as you know, is gravel-dirt with tar sealed sections very limited.
Add to this steep sections already in places, a lack of suitable guard railing, snow depth indicators and the idea becomes dangerous.
Let alone the legal ramifications to Council and NPWS.
Please don't misunderstand me, I think it would be a huge boost for tourism but is the potential risk to life and property worth the risk?
To provide all weather access to the mountain just isn't plausible without huge, and costly, amounts of roadworks, in my opinion.
I have been one of many that have been involved in recovery and other events on Canobolas over the years.
