TAFE NSW Orange fitness teacher Elissa Dove said now is an ideal time to consider a career in fitness.
Ms Dove said 68 per cent of adults in regional areas like Orange are overweight or obese.
"While these are incredibly alarming statistics, what it does mean is there's lots of rewarding career opportunities available in this industry," she said.
Ms Dove said the first step to a career in fitness was obtaining a Certificate III in Fitness qualification, which teaches how to instruct and support people of all ages.
