Emergency services were called to the Bylong Valley Way, about eight kilometres west of Kandos, after a Holden commodore left the road and hit a tree at about 8.30am.

The male driver and sole occupant died at the scene.

Officers from Orana-Mid Western Police District established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Bylong Valley Way is closed between Kandos and Ilford with local traffic diversions in place.

Motorists are advised to plan an alternate route to the area, with the Castlereagh Highway still open in the mid-west region.
