Drivers will be able to travel eastbound on Victoria Street between Elizabeth Street and Swanston Street in the CBD on Monday, several days after it was forced to close.
But hours after the main burst, motorists had been free to travel westbound.
City West Water, VicRoads, City of Melbourne and the Cross Yarra Partnership crews have been part of the "complex" cleanup since it burst on Thursday.
Engineers had monitored conditions and made changes to signals in real time to minimise delays during the process to get the road back on track.
