The monthly market coincided with Plastic Free July meaning stall holders and shoppers were encouraged to find alternatives to using plastic containers and bags.
Market committee president Paula Charnock said the initiative started last year and people were learning.
"There's definitely been a lot of people with [their own] bags today," Mrs Charnock said.
The public is becoming far more conscious about the effects of plastic on the environment
- ECCO president Nick King
She said when it came to her stall Thornbrook Apples the stall supplied bags made from vegetable matter but people were learning that they don't need to put the bag into their other bag and that they can put the apples directly into their own bags.
"It's been good, surprising for the weather, we thought it would be a lot quieter than it has been but it's been quite steady, it's been surprisingly good."
Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange president Nick King said he only saw one person with a plastic bag in the morning on Saturday and everyone else brought reusable bags.
"The public is becoming far more conscious about the effects of plastic on the environment," Mr King said.
"We are selling a lot more $2 bags."
Mr King said initially people started buying one or two of $2 bags, which are ideal for carrying fruit or vegetables.
"Now the same people are coming back and buying four or five," Mr King said.
"We promote plastic free for the year, not just Plastic Free July.
"I think the message is definitely getting across to the public."
