Jacob Pierre McMillan-Simpson, 22, of Pirinari Place, represented himself in court after he was caught mid-range drink-driving after being stopped at a stationary breath testing site at Young at 6.15pm on April 19.

McMillan-Simpson was a P1 licence holder driving a Toyota Land Cruiser when he was stopped and police said they could smell alcohol when he wound down his window.

After he failed the breath test, McMillan-Simpson was arrested and taken to Young Police Station for breath analysis where he returned a mid-range reading of 0.087.

His driver's licence was suspended and he told police he drank five or six stubbies of beer.

"It was a pretty big mistake, I was stupid and not thinking but I did do it," McMillan-Simpson said in court on Monday.

"I'm a brick-laying apprentice so [the suspension has] made it pretty difficult getting to work and getting to TAFE and all that."

He said he attended the Traffic Offenders Intervention Program where he learnt the seriousness of his driving and how accidents can happen.

"[I've] no excuse really, I think I've learnt a lot really," McMillan-Simpson said.

For mid-range drink-driving magistrate Karen Robinson fined McMillan-Simpson $750 and disqualified his driver's licence for three months, backdated to the time of his licence suspension, and placed him on an interlock order.

"You were supposed to have nothing in your system," Ms Robinson said.

"You should also try and progress your Ps, as soon as you are on an unrestricted licence you will have a lot more freedom."

In the other matter, Alexander Keith Raymond Campbell, 36, of Gidley Street, Molong, did not appear in court for low-range drink-driving.

Campbell was driving west on Dalton Street, with three passengers aged over 16 in his car, about 12.40am on June 13, when police decided to breath test him because he had stopped in the middle of the road.

He returned a positive reading so was arrested and taken to Orange Police Station for breath analysis, which returned a reading of 0.069.

It was Campbell's second drink-driving offence within a five year period, he previously had a mid-range drink-driving offence in April 2017.

According to police, Campbell said he had two long necks of beer between 5pm and 7pm on June 12 and he also had a can of Coke and mixed bourbon into it.

On Monday, Ms Robinson fined him $880 and disqualified his driver's licence for three months and gave him an interlock order.
