Jamie McKellar, 25, of Currong Crescent, was fined $400 when he appeared in court for possession of 0.7 grams of cannabis leaf.
According to police about 11pm on May 1, McKellar was in the poker machine area of a licensed premises and because he had been in the area for a number of hours and spent more time loitering than playing the machines, staff became suspicious and phoned police.
Police arrived at 11.45pm and recognised McKellar from previous interactions and said he appeared to be nervous and evasive.
Due to his actions, background and previous drug activity in the area, he was searched and the cannabis was found in one of his pockets.
He said "one of my mates must've dropped it or something and I picked it up".
In another matter, Trevor Ian Crawford, 55, of Jilba Street, was convicted without further action after police found 1.4 grams of cannabis leaf in his possession.
Police initially spoke with Crawford about 1.30am on May 20, when they received a report of an intoxicated man.
Police offered to take him home but he could not go to the address supplied and with nowhere else to take him police took him to the police station where the cannabis was found in his tobacco pouch.
In the third matter Johnny Ney, 28, of Sale Street, was convicted without further charge for possession of two grams of cannabis leaf.
According to police, officers saw him get out of the passenger seat of a car on Bathurst Road at 3.30am on May 9.
Ney wasn't speaking properly and police suspected he was hiding drugs in his mouth. He removed a bag containing the cannabis and a $20 note. He was given the note back but the cannabis was seized.
Ney was serving parole and told police. He represented himself in court and said he had trouble sleeping and used to "be a big cannabis smoker" but as soon as he bought the drug he got caught.
Magistrate Elizabeth Ellis did not take any action regarding his parole.
