Arabesk features Bathurst's Rob Shannon [guitar], Veren Grigorov [violin], John Maddox [double bass] and Calvin Welch [drums/percussion], and their music takes inspiration from a variety of influences.
Shannon said the upcoming performance, scheduled for the Victoria on Friday, July 12, will be Arabesk's first Bathurst gig in two years.
"A new year's resolution of mine was to play more local gigs, so it's nice to be able to bring the bring the band out here for a change," he said.
Arabesk has been together since 2003 and to date, the group has released three studio albums and a live record.
The group's most recent album, 2016's Mr Fi, was recorded in Bathurst with local producer Tim Roebuck.
Shannon said the group's sound is defined by each member's distinctive musical journey.
"Welch was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in the midst of the Motown movement, while Grigorov hails from Bulgaria and has deep roots in the classical and jazz genres," he said.
"We define our sound as gypsy soul music, and everyone in the band devotes 100 per cent of their musical potential to the performance."
Shannon took up guitar professionally shortly before Arabesk's formation, progressing from a diverse background in drumming that included a tabla tutelage in India during the 1990s.
The group has received national and international attention for their music, winning the instrumental section at the 2017 Australian Songwriting Contest and reaching the finals of the 2017 International Songwriting Competition.
Shannon said Arabesk's music will provide an energetic collage of sound for audiences to digest.
"In two sets of music, expect to hear everything from heavy jazz to African beats and gypsy grooves," he said.
"We leave no genre unturned, and the audience will be more than welcome to get up and dance."
Arabesk's performance at the Victoria will get underway from 6pm. Tickets cost $20 and are available from Eventfinda.
