Gavin Michael Howell, 44, of no fixed address, was charged with stealing property from a house and was convicted in Orange Local Court.
According to police, Howell entered a house in Hill Street about 2pm on December 29, 2018, and was seen removing items including the televisions, which he placed in his car then left with another person.
A neighbour saw Howell take the items and called police who arrived a short time later and came across Howell and his vehicle.
I'm ordering you to have no drugs, no alcohol for nine months, if you break it it goes back to the parole board not back to this court.
- Magistrate Elizabeth Ellis
Howell said he was at the home but the items belonged to him.
He told police he bought some of the items from a resident and he had been living at the house for a week.
A female resident was contacted and she identified items that had been removed from her bedroom.
Howell was arrested and charged with stealing two televisions, two back packs, a fold-up chair, the basket, hair dryer, an X Box cord, portable light, power cords and a hard drive.
According to police Howell appeared to be affected by drugs or alcohol, was rambling and kept repeating himself, he was jittery and could not stay still.
The female resident collected her belongings and the other resident was also contacted and sad he had not sold any items to Howell.
For stealing the items, magistrate Elizabeth Ellis gave Howell a nine-month intensive correction order and he must abstain from drugs and alcohol.
"I do note when you were put on a suspended order you stayed out of trouble for a long time so I'm hoping the two [conditions] I will put on this order will help you," Ms Ellis said.
"I'm ordering you to have no drugs, no alcohol for nine months, if you break it it goes back to the parole board not back to this court."
Solictor Andrew Rolfe said Howell had attended the Magistrates Early Referral into Treatment program and said supervision would help him maintain any gains he's made in the program.
