The five-bedroom property at 21 Summer Street sold for $1.6 million in April, according to figures from the NSW Valuer General.

It takes over top spot from 27 Byng Street which has held the position since 2016 when it sold for $1.5 million.

The record-breaking sale was handled by LJ Hooker Orange.

Licensee/director Pat Cutcliffe said interest had been "reasonably strong" considering the price.

"There's not lot of buyers with that sort of capacity," he said.

"The buyers were from the local area.

"I thought it was an excellent result from our point of view."

The Valuer General's figures also revealed that while 21 Summer Street fetched the highest price for a house in Summer Street in the just-finished financial year it was not the highest priced sale in Summer Street.

Of the 10 properties sold on Summer Street in the 2018-19 financial year a commercial property at 138-140 Summer Street, now housing the Bendigo Bank, was the street's winner, selling for $2.03 million last August. It was followed by the Hotel Orange which sold for $1.87 million in December.

The Central Western Daily understands at least 14 Orange CBD properties have sold for more than $1 million. The latest to join them was a house at 3 Clinton Street which has just sold for $1.225 million.

The property was handled by the LJ Hooker and McCormack Barber real estate agencies. Mr Cutcliffe said there had been several offers for the property.

McCormack Barber director Peter McCormack said the house had been on the market for several months but interest had picked up after the federal election.

"As soon as the election was over we ended up having four people put in offers within a month after it had previously been on the market for five months."

He said there was interest from out of Orange for the property which picked up in May/June.

Mr McCormack said April was generally a slow month for real estate sales across NSW as it was when Anzac Day occurred and often clashed with Easter and school holidays.

He said in Orange the situation was heightened by colder weather.

"We did find it not as strong [as other months]," he said.

Meanwhile, one of Orange's landmark properties, the former Uniting church at Five Ways, has also been sold.

Benchmark real estate director David Dent said he could not reveal the sale price or what the new owner planned to do with the building on Bathurst Road.

The asking price for the property had been $825,000.

It was originally passed in at auction.

The Uniting Church sold the building and its contents as part of a rationalisation of resources in Orange.
