The intersection of Woodward Street and Wentworth Lane has seen six accidents, including three involving pedestrians from 2014-2018.
There has also been two pedestrians that have been quite seriously hurt in this area.
- Paul Toole, Regional Transport and Roads Minister
Regional Transport and Roads Minister Paul Toole opened the $840,000 roundabout on Tuesday which he said had been funded by the state government ($695,000) and Orange City Council.
"This has a history of accidents over the past five years. There have been six accidents here at this particular site and there has also been two pedestrians that have been quite seriously hurt in this area," he said.
"This roundabout services a lot of people in this region. It is going to make a big difference in this area.
"It is not only the locals, it is also heavy vehicles and freight movements along this section of road that show it is a busy intersection also needed for a roundabout."
Orange mayor Reg Kidd said the intersection serviced traffic from Calare Public School, Elephant Park and Emus Rugby Club at Endeavour Oval.
"This was one of the worst intersections in Orange," he said.
Roads and Maritime Services Western Region director Alistair Lunn said the two-lane roundabout had been designed to handle heavy vehicles.
