The city dropped below zero at around 9pm on Wednesday, with cars icing over less than an hour later in some parts of the city as the mercury eventually reached minus five degrees.

However, the recorded 'feels like' temperature at Orange Airport hit as low as minus seven.

The cold is set to continue, with -4, -3 and -3 the predicted minimums for Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively and while frost is predicted, there's no rain or snow in sight according to weatherzone.com.au.

In fact, the weather-predicting website said Orange only has nine days out of the next month with a low chance of rain, while a further two have medium chance on the long-term forecast, meaning we're expected to be in for a dry month.

The coldest spot to be last night was in Lithgow where the mercury plummeted to a very chilly minus 5.8 degrees, Mudgee was not far behind at -5.1.

Across the region, Bathurst was -4.4 degrees, Forbes -4, Parkes -3.5, Young -1.7, Cowra -0.5 and Dubbo -0.2.
