Orange City Council's heritage team is looking for volunteers to help record the oral history of Orange from older residents who remember key events.

Planned projects include Banjo Paterson Park and people's memories of the day in 1971 when Templer's Mill was demolished, the history of the 1920s-1930s fringe camp south of Orange known as The Springs, the relocation of the Department of Primary Industry to Orange in 1992, the creation of FOOD Week about 30 years ago and the history of the Wentworth Main Mine at Lucknow.

Community museum and heritage manager Alison Russell said they were looking for people with empathy and listening skills who had computer knowledge and their own transport to interview people and record their stories.

Volunteers will get interview training and recording equipment provided.
