The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a top of just five degrees Celsius for Orange, following an overnight low of one.
But the deep freeze is also forecast to bring the biggest dump of snow the Tablelands has seen this season with falls expected above 800 metres.
Orange's altitude is listed at 863 metres, with Mount Canobolas's summit at 1395 metres.
Snow is expected to start falling around 7am and again at 4pm, and residents can expect to see a wide band of snow across the Tablelands stretching from the western edges of Orange and as far east as Katoomba.
The conditions are also likely to make it hazardous on the roads and motorists are warned to slow down and beware of black ice.
There is more possible snow forecast for high areas above 1000 metres on Tuesday.
