A focus on encouraging more children and teenagers to read has led to Collins Booksellers in Orange being one of 54 Australian book shops in Australia to be awarded a Puffin Grant.
Bookshop owners Phillip and Margaret Schwebel used the grant to rearrange the store to create an area just for children, and the next step will be to start a book club for 12 to 14-year-olds.
Mrs Scwebel said they reorganised the store so the children's section is in the back meaning the children have more space to look through the collection and are not in the way of adult shoppers.
"Kids can lie on the floor and feel comfortable," Mrs Schwebel said.
Currently about 35 per cent of the store is dedicated to children's books.
Later this month Collins Booksellers will host authors Oliver Phommavanh and R A Spratt who will speak to students about writing, reading, and where to find inspiration for their own stories.
