Johnston, 25 of Kurim Avenue, was driving along Glenroi Avenue just before 3am on December 7 when he veered towards the side of the road and hit the utility.
The sound of the collision alerted the owner and he saw the driver sitting on the lawn, complaining of chest pain.
He was taken to Orange Health Service where a blood test revealed a reading of 0.134.
Magistrate Brian Van Zuylen asked why he was driving and Johnston told the court he had to deposit some money at the bank.
A two-year interlock order was also enforced.
