Member for Orange Phil Donato handed the petition, signed by 10,000 people, to State Parliament on Tuesday.
It will enable the issue to be debated in the lower house next month.
POLL: Have your say ...
"I will be asking for an early morning express passenger train direct from Orange to Sydney and return," he said.
"Currently Bathurst has this important service but Orange does not, and it is very much needed."
Mr Donato said he would also be seeking improvement to the main western line to support faster passenger and goods trains services.
He said country rail services were not getting the same level of government support as Sydney trains.
"Here in the bush we do not enjoy the same accessibility of rail of rail-based capabilities as to those who reside in metropolitan locations, let alone enjoy the level of expenditure spent on metropolitan projects as we have seen in the past year," he said.
The call for improved rail services to Orange has been led by the Orange Rail Action Group.
"[They] are as enthusiastic as I am to see these vital services provided to the Orange electorate," he said.
Mr Donato said it was now up to the government to respond to the people's call.
