The volunteers set out on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday to raise money for families doing it tough across the Central West.

Year 11 student, Taylah Reilly said she'd been volunteering for the appeal since year 7 and didn't mind giving up her weekend to help out.

Taylah said the biggest donation she'd ever received was $200 cash from an older woman who lived near Cecil Road, on her last door knock for 2018.

Year 12 captain Addison Toms said you don't have to give a lot and most people are happy to help out.

The Salvation Army has set itself a $60,000 door knock target this year, with a further $20,000 expected to be raised through the shopping centre collection and business launch.

Captain Tahlia Grounds said the Salvation Army was still seeking volunteers for the weekend, particularly for the Clifton Grove and Murphys Lane regions.

More than 300 volunteers will hit the streets across Orange and surrounding towns over the three days.
